The Air Spring Kit. As it comes from LMS, the air spring kit is a pretty easy conversion for the X2 model mini mills. You merely lay out and drill a few holes as specified in the illustrated instructions and with about an hours work, the conversion is done.

I had 5 micron scales as well, and when in inch mode I had four digits right of the decimal point. When in metric mode I had three like you do. The mill is quite capable of giving that level of precision if the operator is capable. One time, I had a flat-head allen screw that was sticking up just a little too high on a mag funnel for a pistol.

My first mill was a Little Machine Shop Hi-Torque 3900 mini mill, purchased second hand. The LMS ones seem to be better equipped than the same manufacturer sold elsewhere under different names. For example the LMS one has a larger table and is fitted with a belt drive instead of the plastic gear drive that I have heard is a failure point.

First off I purchased the Mini-Mill Ballscrew Kit #5 from CNC fusion for a LMS HiTorque/SX2L mill, 2 weeks later the kit arrived. Z Axis fit perfectly, X and Y not so much. The X axis ballscrew center was out on both ends by 3mm and the Y axis ballscrew was 8mm too long so i had to get my own parts and mounts made up.

I have the Harbor Freight Mini-mill. I have completed three 80% lowers on it without a hitch. I paid $400 for it when it was on sale, I had an additional 25% off coupon, bringing it down fro $600. I spent an additional $60 for mill bits and $50 for a 7/16 mill set.

I went to Grizzly and looked close at their mini mills, then came home and order the LMS mill. Grizzly is pretty good stuff, but I feel the LMS is a little better quality. Had mine a couple years now and it does all this knife maker needs to do.
