I bought a Jantz Jig for my hollow grinding and I really like it. It takes a good bit of adjusting but if you do a lot of the same size and shape blades it will come in handy. I was hesitant about spending the money but I am glad that I did.

Jan 27, 2011. #1. Does anyone have a used hollow grinding made easy jig from jantz knife supply for sale or know of some one who may be selling the jig? Let me know, a friend of mine is interested. I do know they're $319.00, high price to pay for a good hollow grind when don't have the experience and using a grizzly 2x72 which they make it to fit.

Hollow grinds can be done freehand or with a variety of jigs. The diameter of the hollow grind is determined by the size of the contact wheel. Historically, the most popular jigs are pressure jigs. They track perpendicular to the grinders belt. Pressure is created by turning a dial on the back of the jig which moves the blade forward into the belt.

With the width if the surface and the depth of the grind, you can calculate the radius you will need. It's going to be fairly large. Take a look around online for scissor sharpening jigs, and you will get a pretty good idea. Also look at hollow grinding jigs as used by knifemakers. Best of luck.

Nov 9, 2017. #18. For those new to knife making, and considering jigs vs free-hand. It does not necessarily take 10,000 hours or 200 knives to get good. I have approximately 40 knives under my belt from what I can figure, grinding part time for just under 3 years now. Never used a jig, never even used a rest.
