The copper or silver is easy to cut, but wants to stick to the cutting tool. On a milling cutter, the chip sticks to the edge and then pressure welds to the copper when it comes around. You need rake and clearance on your cutting tool, the rake to make the chip slide off without attaching and clearance to avoid scuffing.
