Question about Stihl chain angles. I have an Oregon 511A Bench Grinder and I run Oregon chain which is great, however I am trying to grind Stihl PMC3 chain for a buddy and I can't seem to translate the charts. I have three variable angles on the grinder. The grind angle ajustable on the back, the top plate angle and the vice-tilt angle.

One advantage of a chain grinder is that you can choose any angle you want, to match the specific cutting you do, or just to experiment. Otherwise, start with the standard angles. My 'standard' angles now are 55/30/0 based on the more current Oregon specs. Try stuff. See what works for you.

Thanks Philbert, l like the look of the top new hydraulic assist grinder. l have a 511 knock off which my father gave me as a gift which works quite well but l would really like a top quality oregon or silvey. l am quite a good hand filer but the savings in time and effort with a chain grinder are very hard to ignore.
