Combine a cutter with carbide inserts (sold separately) to create a face milling cutter, also known as indexable face milling cutters. They remove metal at least two times faster than comparable high-speed steel face milling cutters. When the cutting edges dull replace the carbide inserts instead of the entire tool. Use with an R8 shank arbor (sold separately).

Yes I did use a face mill. A shear hog to be exact, I suspected that that could be my issue. This is an optical manifold of some sort so coolant is ok. Most GF peek we machine is around 2in sq so we never really experience twisting with this stuff. This part in particular is 8 in long hence why I was face milling which I will rethink that approach.

Also, to reduce chatter, face with an 1/2" endmill using 1500 RPM and 9% velocity slider (~10 ipm) When cutting a thin plate of aluminum stock, tools like the 1/2" and the shear hog will induce too much pressure and cause chatter.

We use a FACE MILL which is called SHEAR HOG. I can use the code which you provided above, and name the tool 'FACE MILL SHEAR HOG' and it works; however, I need it to work with the just the name 'SHEAR HOG' as the tool name. I would appreciate if you could help me with this issue. Thank you.

The AB shear hog is a tough tool to beat when it comes to MRR... especially on low HP machines. Super free cutting. We use the 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 and Bridgeports and EZ tracks and that tool just simply flies..... But from going over some of these posts, I agree with most of it about the endmill situation.

My guess is face mill is for just that, though some smaller ones may also be able to do some limited pockets, a shell mill seems smaller, but tends to need a seperate holder like a face mill, I'm not sure what the generic name for the shear hog like cutters are... but they seem to be most like what I am after.

Bigger tools like a face mill don't usually do well on low HP machines. I have a 770 and just use a fly cutter. When working properly it can get an amazing finish. As for "hogging" aluminum the shear hog does really well on Tormachs.
