If you really want to go cheap buy a 1x30. There are a lot of options for <150. Make sure you buy one with a freely approachable belt from all sides and a good flat table. For hobby grinding they're pretty decent and if you upgrade one day you will still use it for other stuff as a secondary/detail grinder.
