I made this toolpost grinder from plans in an article in Home Shop Machinist - a very nice design, btw. Commercial toolpost grinders cost between $1K and $2K, while this was about $250. It uses a small router as a motor while the grinding wheel shaft runs in high-speed sealed ball bearings in a billet aluminum frame.

Lacking a toolpost grinder, I had to use the only high-speed grinder at my disposal: a Dremel tool with a flexible shaft and ball-bearing hand piece. I drilled a hole in a small block of aluminum to pass the toolpost clamping bolt through. Then, I drilled and bored out the hole for the grinder while the block was still clamped to the toolpost.

A good surface grinder is a really useful precision instrument. At the precision grinding shop I used to work at, long ago, we had a nice WW2-era 10×32 surface grinder.

I used a dremel as a tool post grinder to grind and polish pinewood derby car axels (nails) and had good results Fast Car. I used aluminum milled a key on the back to fit in my toolpost milled a round in the opposite side to fit the grinder. I added a hose clamp and with a well dressed stone had very little chatter.
