Flywheel Inspection & Resurfacing. There comes a time in the life of every flywheel when it needs to be resurfaced. That time is usually when the clutch is replaced. Normal clutch operation generates a lot of friction and heat. The mass of the flywheel absorbs and dissipates the heat. If the clutch is starting to slip, even more heat is generated.

The flywheel I need to do now is for a 2.0L 4 cyl and is small but was pretty expensive and has a few hard spots that a flycutter would probably have a hard time with. I guess I'll just look for a good machine shop and measure the step height before payment to ensure it's proper. I could then have it Blanchard ground for a ensured quality job.

As for holding I wasn't confident with the lip on the back face so I made up a mandrel type spud to fit tight into the back of the flywheel roughly 4"dia and then pitched the reqired tapped holes in the face to mount the wheel as if fixing to the engine. Run it in the chuck by hand and true her in with the dti.
