Paul was killed at Daw Mill pit, near Arley. It is believed he was hit by a cart. The inquest is to be held at Warwickshire Coroner's Court on a date yet to be set. Paul's death was the third fatality at Daw Mill Colliery, the biggest remaining pit in the UK, in a period of eight months (see deaths of Trevor Steples and Anthony Garrigan).

The fatality at Daw Mill occurred when a two-part polyurethane mix (Bevedol/Bevedan) was being used as a strata binder by workers. After finishing their task the workers dumped the residue from the drums onto the floor where it was reported to have ed and ignited. Initial reports said the flames were more than 1m high.

Dexter Colliery workings were merged with Daw Mill Colliery and coal winding ceased 26th March 1965. Shafts continued in use as service and maintenance shafts until c. 1985. Closed completely 1st. April 1987 and the site cleared during 1988. Kingsbury colliery continued to wind coal until 28th June 1968.

At Gleision colliery in South Wales we don't yet know the details but, it is likely that the men were working too close to old workings. Why was that, will be the key question of the investigation. As far as the deaths at Daw Mill, Kellingley and Welbeck collieries in recent years are concerned - these have all been separate incidents.
